Is there conversation regarding death when no terminal illness is diagnosed, but someone has terminal dementia? I'm a retired nurse with strong feelings that I do not want to live in this state....my children understand this and I want them to be able to terminate my life when the time is right - without going to jail! We all saw my mother go downhill with dementia until she wouldn't get out of bed or eat or drink. Can the terminology "terminal" be changed to include dementia? We are all born terminal, and some of us do not want to live with bed sores, and what comes with those.....sepsis, antibiotics, pain, etc.

Every state should have a "Death with Dignity Act" for those of us who would like to leave this world with some dignity in the event of a debilitating, fatal illness. I, for one, do not wish to be burden on my family, so if the end is coming for me, I would like to be the one to say, "Now is the time."

I applaud Peter Goodwin's compassion and his hard work in making death with dignity a choice in Oregon. As an Oregon resident from 1992 to 2004 I saw the difficulty Dr Kevorkian had in applying physician assisted suicide to people at life's end and in great pain living.. I applaud both men with the success in their efforts as it is now possible to die with dignity!
