Grants Writer/Manager
This position is responsible for all aspects of grant writing and management for a small and growing program and will assist with the overall fundraising for Compassion & Choices.
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Grants Writer/Manager is responsible for the following:
•Secure support from foundation and corporate funding sources for general operating and program purposes.
•Maintenance and tracking of grants and gifts received.
•Prepare and submit timely interim reports, final reports and other necessary requirements including financial reports to funders.
•Develop and prepare budgets and supporting materials for proposals and applications.
•Cultivate and manage key funding and sponsorship relationships with significant foundation and corporate funders.
•Maintain tracking of grants received and analyze grants pending or anticipated; manage gift lists for current and prior fiscal years.
•Identify new sources of support and prepare research profiles on existing funders and prospects.
•Ensure proper crediting of foundation and corporate funders in published materials.
•Work closely with the Compassion & Choices program staff to become familiar with a wide array of programs.
•Communicate program initiatives and goals in a compelling manner to funders - both verbally and in writing.
•Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material.

The candidate will bring a variety of experiences and attributes to the organization including, but not limited to the following:
•Established track record of success in donor cultivation and securing grants from foundation and corporate sources.
•Advanced written and oral communication skills.
•Extensive knowledge of foundation and corporate funding community.
•Research skills to assess grant-making organizations and analyze them to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.
•Ability and desire to acquire and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of the organization, and use that knowledge and understanding to better comprehend all projects and programs for which grants will be sought and to recommend the seeking of grants.
•Strong analytical and planning skills.
•Record of honesty and trustworthiness.
•Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•Understanding of budgeting.
•Ability to meet schedule of deadlines.
•Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft office, Raiser’s Edge and Foundation Center databases
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution required. Five+ years of development related experience, at least three with grant writing duties required.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Ideally, the new Grant Writer/Manager would be available to assume responsibilities for this part-time position by June 15, 2008. Success of the program benchmarks could convert this position to full time in the future.

Major Gifts Officer (Eastern Region)
New York, NY or Washington, DC Metro Area
Compassion & Choices, the nation’s largest and most effective advocacy organization for end-of-life care and policy, seeks an experienced Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to work with $1,200+ donors in the Eastern Region. Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, this position will be responsible for a portfolio of approximately 300 major donors and major donor prospects. S/he will personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors as well as support board and volunteers engagement in major donor fundraising.
The MGO will have:
•A minimum of 5 years of successful major gift fundraising experience is required and experience in an advocacy or social justice organization is preferred.
•Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution required, CFRE preferred.
•Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30% of time.
•Advanced written and oral communication skills.
•Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft office and Raiser’s Edge.
•Passion about civil liberties advocacy in general and end-of-life choice specifically.
•A collaborative work style, strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with staff, board members, volunteers and high-level donors.

Community Organizer/Online Community Builder
Compassion & Choices is seeking an Online Community Builder to join our Communications team. This is a 30 hrs/week in-office position.
As the champion for the Compassionandchoices.org community, this position is responsible for virtually all aspects of online community engagement. The Online Community Developer will work with the Communications team to set the online community strategy, will engage internal and external audiences to support that strategy, and will manage execution of the programs that result from it. The goal is to drive increasing levels of participation, enrich the end user experience, and identify how best to monetize site traffic. The ideal candidate will understand the dynamics of online communities and the methods to engage thousands of people that are the key to continued success of Compassion & Choices and the National aid-in-dying movement.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, TASKS:
Help set the vision for Compassionandchoices.org online community, developing and managing the plan to get there.
Create and implement strategies for increasing e-newsletter subscription base, and optimize traffic from e-newsletters.
Conduct competitive research/analysis to determine needs for new areas of expansion.
Help design systems and processes to enable broad participation, maintain consistent quality, and drive measurable results.
ü Work with Development staff to maximize revenue generation from online community activities i.e., new members, increase contributions, sponsorship, product sales.
Grow our contact base exponentially by making it fun and easy for your supporters to reach out to their network of friends and family.
Launch an advocacy marketing campaign using e-mail and Web site to empower our donors, supporters, members, and community to take action on behalf of our organization to influence elected officials and the media.
Monitor competitors in the space, and continually recommend and implement improvements to ensure best-of-breed in category.
Document, track, and monitor problems to ensure timely resolution.
