CharityWatch Ranks C&C as Only Top-Rated Charity for Terminally and Chronically Ill Adults

By Ian Richards

CharityWatch, a nonprofit charity watchdog and information service formerly known as the American Institute of Philanthropy, has ranked Compassion & Choices among the top U.S.-based charity organizations.

C&C is one of only three charities that provide services to the terminally and chronically ill that qualified for “Top-Rated” status. The other two top-rated charities work exclusively with children.

The Charity Rating Guide gives a letter-grade rating and other statistics on the financial performance of approximately 600 major American charities in 36 different categories that receive $1 million or more of public support annually and that are of interest to donors nationally.

Rather than simply repeating information gleaned from tax filings or offered by the charities themselves, CharityWatch conducts in-depth analyses of audited financial statements, annual reports, IRS Form 990 filings and other data to give you a clear picture of how a charitable organization actually uses its funding.

Of the approximately six hundred charities currently rated by CharityWatch, only a select number qualify for our listing of Top-Rated charities based on our rigorous analysis. Groups included on the Top-Rated list generally spend 75% or more of their budgets on [charitable] programs, spend $25 or less to raise $100 in public support, do not hold excessive assets in reserve, and receive ‘open-book’ status for disclosure of basic financial informationand documents to CharityWatch.”

The recognition of C&C as the leading charity in its field is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our donors and staff to achieve our goals as efficiently and transparently as possible.
