2022
Compassion & Choices Action Network took strides toward passing end of life legislation for Nevada with bill sponsor Edgar Flores. The Nevada End of Life Options Act was pre-filed by the now-Senator in 2022. Our grassroots supporters made the time to attend and host community events, educating other Nevadans about end of life options.
2021
On March 22, 2021 the Nevada End of Life Options Act (A.B. 351) was introduced by sponsors Assemblyman Edgar Flores and Senator Dallas Harris. Unfortunately, the Nevada Legislative session ended on May 31, 2021 and the Nevada End of Life Options Act failed without passing either chamber. We are disappointed in this outcome, but determined to continue this necessary work. This temporary setback will not deter us from passing this bill in the near future, for the 73 percent of Nevadans who support this option to die peacefully.
2020
Compassion & Choices and the Nevada Coalition for Death with Dignity continued to grow our grassroots supporter base with events (in-person and then virtually following physical distancing measures enacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic) that educated and empowered Nevadans to chart their own end-of-life journey.
2019
Medical aid-in-dying legislation (SB 165) was reintroduced in 2019 by Senator David Parks and 16 cosponsors. The bill was passed by the Senate Health & Human Services Committee on March 20 with a 3-2 vote. The bill, along with many others, ran against the April 23 deadline for the “first house passage” and did not pass the Senate in time to advance further in the 2019 session.
2017
Nevada State Senator David Parks (D-Las Vegas) introduced SB 261, a medical aid-in-dying bill, in 2017. The bill passed out of the Senate Health and Human Services committee 3-2 and then it passed the Senate 11-10 on a bipartisan vote. The Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services heard it but did not hold a vote before the session ended.
