Faced with a terminal diagnosis, North Dakota residents deserve the full range of options for care at the end of life, including medical aid in dying. Medical aid in dying allows terminally ill adults to get a prescription they can take to end their life peacefully.

On January 18, 2021, the North Dakota House of Representatives introduced H.B 1415, legislation authorizing medical aid in dying, with bipartisan support. The House Human Services Committee heard testimony on the bill and we are awaiting further action. This is the first time that the North Dakota Legislative Assembly has considered legislation on this topic and we will continue to work closely with supporters in future legislative sessions to ensure any medical aid in dying bills introduced are modeled after effective legislation in other states, like Oregon and New Mexico.

Volunteers are at the heart of Compassion & Choices advocacy, education and outreach efforts, paving the way for a full range of end-of-life options nationwide. Become a volunteer in North Dakota today.
