2022

Representative Jennifer Dailey-Provost (D) introduced HB 0074, legislation seeking to legalize medical aid in dying in Utah for the 2022 session. The bill received a hearing in the House Committee on Health & Human Services, but failed to move forward by a vote of 9-2. We are excited that a medical aid in dying bill had a hearing in Utah for the first time, and will continue to build grassroots support for this legislation to pass in the future.

2020

Representative Jennifer Dailey-Provost (D) introduced HB 93, legislation seeking to legalize medical aid in dying in Utah for the 2020 session. Unfortunately, the legislature adjourned without taking action. Compassion & Choices is working with bill sponsors to introduce legislation next session.

2019

HB 121, the End of Life Prescription Provision, was introduced by Rep. Jennifer Dailey-Provost on January 9, 2019. This bill would amend the Utah Uniform Probate Code to enact the End of Life Options Act, authorizing medical aid in dying in the state. Unfortunately, the bill did not get a hearing and did not advance.

2018

On January 22, 2018, Utah State Representative Rebecca Chavez-Houck introduced House Bill 210, End of Life Options Act, making this the fourth time she has introduced similar legislation. Utah was one of 40 states where Compassion & Choices provided policy or technical assistance to the State officials or their offices between 2017 and 2018.

2017

On January 5, 2017, Representative Chavez-Houck introduced House Bill 76, End of Life Options Act. Compassion & Choices volunteers sent letters urging their legislators to support the bill, visited their elected officials, held numerous organizing events and told their stories. However, on February 9, 2017, the bill was tabled.

2015-2016

Utah State Representative Rebecca Chavez-Houck introduced two similar bills in 2015 and 2016. Both attempts were tabled and sent for further study.
