New Chiefs Bring Their Talent and Enthusiasm to Compassion & Choices Leadership

Compassion & Choices is pleased to present three staff new to our C-level. These exceptional professionals — two with long tenures at the organization — are already making a significant impact and energizing our work.
Chief Engagement Officer Brandi Alexander: “I see a brighter future for Compassion & Choices because of how much more inclusive we are now — not just ethnic diversity, but age, faith, sexual orientation and gender identity. Everyone’s voice matters here and in the movement.”
For nearly two decades, Brandi has devoted herself to advancing Compassion & Choices’ mission. This includes pioneering the need for us to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive movement.
She began at Compassion & Choices in 2004 as an office manager and over the years took on increasing responsibility, envisioning and building our Community Engagement program and spearheading the formation of our Leadership Council model and concept. This included forging genuine partnerships with national leaders and organizations; presenting at national, state and local conferences; and authoring op-eds and thought-leadership pieces.
In her collective time at Compassion & Choices, Brandi has worked on end-of-life campaigns nationwide, including hands-on involvement with successful efforts to authorize medical aid in dying in Colorado, New Mexico, Vermont, Montana and Washington, D.C.
Chief Development Officer Kiana Cornish: “Many of the positions I've held in fundraising have been in the social justice movement working within communities that are underrepresented and underserved. I strongly believe in bodily autonomy and self-determination for every person.”
Kiana’s entire professional career has been working in development, with over a decade as a senior fundraising professional. Before joining Compassion & Choices last October, she worked for national nonprofits focused on health and human services, and advocacy civil-rights organizations. She also spent seven years as vice president in corporate philanthropy and partnership building in the healthcare sector.
In her new role, Kiana is responsible for the organization’s fundraising and implementing a strategy that encourages continued support of the Compassion & Choices mission and programs while promoting a culture of gratitude and philanthropy.
Chief Strategy Officer Mickey MacIntyre: “Throughout my life and career, seeing an individual’s ability to choose threatened drives me to action, especially as it relates to healthcare. As long as patient-directed care isn't the standard and other people get to make decisions for me, my loved ones and my people, I will work to make it possible for everyone to get the care they want at the end of their lives.”
Mickey came to this work through the HIV/AIDS pandemic and has served Compassion & Choices and the end-of-life choice and care movement professionally since 2005. As a consultant, development director, chief program officer and now chief strategy officer, he has supported the organization’s trajectory to becoming the movement leader it is today.
Throughout his career, Mickey has served as an architect of social change movements. He has effectively engaged in strategic and campaign planning with hundreds of organizations and coalitions in challenging political-advocacy arenas. His focus now at Compassion & Choices will be on developing and executing organizational strategy and change management.
