David Grube, MD

David was born in Eugene and raised in rural Oregon and Alaska. He received a BA in Natural Science at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR and graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School (now Oregon Health and Sciences University). In his third year there he received an AAMC/USPHS Fellowship to the former Yugoslavia, where he witnessed a variola epidemic in Belgrade.

A physician of Family Medicine, David completed his Internship in Tucson, AZ, and then became a commissioned officer in the USPHS, National Health Service Corps. He has been a leader in the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians and OAFP Foundation.  He was stationed in Grand Coulee, WA for three years, and moved to Philomath, OR in 1977 where he founded Philomath Family Medicine. He practiced family medicine there for 35 years, retiring in 2012.

He was appointed to the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners (now Oregon Medical Board) in 2001, and served seven years (two years as president). He was chosen OAFP Family Physician of the Year in 1986 and Oregon Medical Association Doctor Citizen of the Year in 2009.

David has taught (and continues to teach) premedical and medical students for his entire career. He has lectured nationally on topics such as Professionalism, Medical Ethics, End of Life Care, and Humor in Medicine. He has served his local school board, his local hospital board, and is again on the board of the local hospice. He is a National Medical Director for Compassion & Choices.
