Rhode Island

The Lila Mansfield Sapinsley Compassionate Care Act (H 7297/S 0224), a medical aid-in-dying bill, was introduced in both the House and Senate in the January 2018 session. Compassion & Choice supporters testified in favor of House Bill 7297, which would authorize medical aid in dying in Rhode Island, on Wednesday, April 4. The committee is now considering the legislation.

History

Rhode Island introduced legislation modeled off of the Oregon law in 1995, 1998, 2001, 2006 and 2007. In 2015, five state representatives introduced the Lila Manfield Spanisley Compassionate Care Act. The bill was heard in a House Committee and held for further study.
