Patricia Bernstein serves as the chief operating officer at Compassion & Choices, the leading national nonprofit organization committed to helping everyone have the best death possible. In this capacity, Ms. Bernstein is responsible for human resources, IT, office support and facilities.
Ms. Bernstein came to Compassion & Choices with almost two decades of experience running the operations of both national and nonprofit hospice and palliative care organizations. In addition to her work with hospice and palliative care providers, Patricia has held regional positions with a nursing home chain, Alzheimer’s care provider, and a pharmaceutical company.
Patricia’s interest in the medical field began in Canada, where she was born and raised, and where she obtained a pharmacy technician diploma and a certificate in dental assisting; she later taught these skills at a technical school in Michigan. Patricia also has a degree from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She lived with her husband and son in the Washington, D.C. area for nearly 20 years before moving to Portland, Oregon in 2013. Patricia is dedicated to the cause of ensuring the highest quality of end-of-life care and support for patients and their families.
