Compassion & Choices volunteers and staff worked overtime to move legislation to authorize aid in dying in Maryland in late 2014 and early 2015. The Richard E. Israel and Roger “Pip” Moyer Death with Dignity Act (House Bill 1021 and Senate Bill 676) gained unprecedented traction in just a few months’ time.
Marylanders turned out to show their support in big ways! One hundred Marylanders came out for the March 4th Citizen Lobby Day in Annapolis and dozens testified at two legislative hearings in Annapolis. They also showed their commitment to end-of-life choices for journalists and TV cameras covering these events. The momentum in Maryland was explosive during the 2015 legislative session and we want lawmakers to know widespread support for death with dignity persists in Maryland!
