Compassion & Choices’ Brandi Alexander Receives American Society on Aging Award

This week, Compassion & Choices Chief Engagement Officer Brandi Alexander was honored with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award from the American Society on Aging (ASA) at their annual conference in San Francisco, California. Over the last two decades, Brandi has been instrumental in building Compassion & Choices’ outreach efforts to diverse populations and ensuring our mission reaches all communities nationwide.

In a speech at the conference, Brandi said, “I appreciate the countless people who have embraced these very personal and private issues, and been willing to share their stories. You all helped me find my purpose to create change and empower our people.” She continued, “There is a saying that if you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu, and I will continue to be committed to making sure everyone has not only a seat but also a voice.”

Brandi’s dedication to our mission and steadfast commitment to the communities we serve began in 2004, when she started as an office manager. In 2012, she moved across the country to open the Washington, D.C., office, and four years later relocated to Colorado to serve as coalition director for the Yes! On Colorado End of Life Options voter initiative campaign, which led to authorization of aid in dying in the state.

Brandi was instrumental in the Colorado campaign, along with successful efforts to authorize the practice in Vermont, Montana and Washington, D.C. Her work to engage diverse populations has also fostered national alliances with like-minded organizations including the NAACP, SAGE and the ASA.

Compassion & Choices thanks the ASA for recognizing Brandi’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and their continued partnership to lift up end-of-life care, planning and options to their constituents and the public.
