Compassion & Choices Urges Legislature to Advance End of Life Options Act

Says Terminally Ill State Residents Cannot Wait for Courts to Resolve Lawsuit Asserting State Constitution and Existing Law Allow it

“Compassion & Choices is disappointed by a Massachusetts judge’s recent ruling to dismiss a lawsuit, Kligler v. Healey, asserting that both the state constitution and existing state law allow physicians to support a patient’s desire for a peaceful death, also known as medical aid in dying. While we will appeal this ruling, a majority of residents in the Commonwealth want terminally ill state residents to have the option of a peaceful death now. They cannot afford to wait for the courts to resolve this case, so we urge the Massachusetts legislature to advance the Massachusetts End of Life Options Act (H.1926/S.1208) without delay,” said Compassion & Choices Massachusetts Campaign Manager Brian Monteiro.
